New York   N.Y.C.   Skyscraper   History   Historic   World's Fair   New Amsterdam   Book
The picture shows a view of the cover and several example pages from this ©1939 New York From Village To Metropolis Hard Back Book. The book is by Robert W. Swan and Illustrated by James Lewicki. It was published by Grosset & Dunlap of New York.

There are (30) pages filled with Historical information and illustrations from 1609 to 1939. It has a section on when New York was New Amsterdam from 1624 to 1663. There is a section when New York was under the British flag from 1663 to 1783.

The rest of the book is of ''New York - Then and Now'' with the ''Now'' being 1939. On these pages there are illustrations of earlier days and ones of a more modern city with skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building. Many familiar areas of New York are illustrated. The book ends with a nice image of The Crystal Palace where Americas first World's Fair was held in 1853 and a scene with the newest World's Fair in 1939 with an airship and planes flying over the Trylon, Perisphere and people.

The back cover has an image of the Statue of Liberty. The book measures 10-1/8'' x 8-1/4''. It is in good condition with some wear to the cover. The first page has a written name and a 1941 date.
