The pictures below show more and larger views of the (4) Different Small Old United States Power Squadron Ensign Flag Advertising Items in this lot. These items are not dated but they are old.

The three smaller metal items feature an ensign flag insignia with an anchor, stars, and stripes. The two smaller ones are enameled screw back pins and one of them has a wreath. They both have their screwback section included and that section on the white one is marked ''MORSE ATTLEBORO''. We do not know what metals these are made from and they have not been tested.

The larger of the three has the flag over a ship's helm or wheel with a rope edge. It is painted and marked ''UNITED STATES POWER SQUADRONS'' on the helm. The back is blank and it has no pin applied. It may have been made for a pin, or it may have been applied to something at one time. There is a little wear to the paint on this one as pictured.

The last item in this lot is paper. It was found folded with the others. There are some notes and names written on the back in pencil. The back is otherwise blank. It is marked ''UNITED STATES POWER SQUADRONS PILOTING CLASS'' and ''LESSONS ON RULES OF THE ROAD''.

To judge the sizes, the larger of the three metal jewelry items measures about 15/16'' wide. They appear to be in excellent or better condition except for the paint wear on the one as mentioned above. The paper item was folded small so it has creases, as well as the penciled writing on the back as mentioned above.

Below here is some information about the United States Power Squadrons:

United States Power Squadrons
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The United States Power Squadrons (USPS) is a non profit educational organization, founded in 1914, whose mission is to improve maritime safety and enjoyability through classes in seamanship, navigation, and other related subjects. The USPS comprises approximately 45,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the United States and in some U.S. territories. It is America's largest non profit boating organization and has been honored by three United States Presidents for its civil contributions. Its official publication is The Ensign magazine.

There are many educational opportunities available within the United States Power Squadrons. USPS offers courses that teach basic knowledge necessary to operate boats safely and legally. The basic course meets the requirements set forth by NASBLA. The United States Power Squadrons offer courses in advanced navigation using modern equipment such as GPS and Radar. Courses are even offered in celestial navigation. USPS also teaches advanced courses in Weather, Marine Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronic and Electrical Systems, Sail, and Cruise Planning.

One critical activity of the United States Power Squadrons is Vessel Safety Check. During a Vessel Safety Check, a qualified USPS Vessel Examiner will board vessels (with permission) and check for the presence and condition of various pieces of equipment required by federal and state laws for the safe operation of that particular vessel. A vessel safety check is provided at no charge and is not a law enforcement boarding. If the boat carries the proper equipment, a sticker will be awarded to display on the vessel. If a boat does not pass the inspection, the USPS informs the owners, but does not report its findings to any law enforcement or government agency.

A parallel organization operates in Canada, under the name Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (Escadrille canadiennes de plaisance) (CPS-ECP). It was founded as an offshoot of USPS in 1938.
