| | | The picture shows a view of this Old Two Frame Comic Strip Ad Mat Mold. It is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1940s or 1950s. These are molds in which lead is poured to create a thin metal negative image that is then mounted on a wooden block for printing. Advertising is no longer being made or printed like this. The ad mat is like a miniature 3-D poster and would look nice framed, or you could still use it and make print blocks from it. The print block would have been used to print on movie pages in newspapers, in magazines, or in the movie theater programs. It is made of a thick compressed paper board. The paper seen around the left and bottom edges reads "FARMINGTON NEWS" on the back. On the back there is also the penciled name "OSGOOD". The scene is of a boy and his parents at their table eating dinner. It reads: ARE CATERPILLARS GOOD TO EAT POP? GOODNESS OF COURSE NOT. WHY DO YOU ASK WHEN WE ARE EATING? JUST WONDERING, THERE WAS ONE ON YOUR LETTUCE, BUT HE'S GONE NOW. The ad mat measures about 5-3/4" x 2-3/4". It is in excellent condition. |
