The advertising card is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1800s. It has a child tripping an adult with some strong thread from a spool. It is marked on the two sides as follows: CLARK'S MILE-END SPOOL COTTON 30 TRADE MARK CLARK'S MILE-END SPOOL COTTON TRADE MARK BEXT SIX CORD. ALL NUMBERS FROM NO. 8 TO 100. THE COLORS ARE ESPECIALLY DYED TO MATCH ALL SHADES OF DRESS GOODS AND CAN BE USED INSTEAD OF SILK BY DRESS MAKERS AND FAMILIES. THE BLACK IS STRONG AND SMOOTH AND OF THE PUREST DYE. IT WILL RETAIN ITS VERY DEEP BLACK HUE AS LONG AS SILK FABRICS. THE WHITE, BLACK AND COLORED IS THE STANDARD FOR USE UPON ALL SEWING MACHINES. DONALDSON BROTHERS, FIVE POINTS, N.Y. The advertising trade card measures about 4-1/2'' x 2-3/4''. It appears to be in excellent condition. There is an upper rigt corner crease and some very light age discoloration on the back as pictured. |
