| | | | The picture shows both side of this Old Pair Of Checkers Popcorn Confection Advertising Premium Spectacles. Checkers Popcorn Confection was a product created by the Shotwell Manufacturing Company. It was the heaviest competitor to Cracker Jack, so much so, that The Cracker Jack Company purchased the product from them in 1926. This pair of cardboard spectacles is from around that time. Since the box pictured on the back does not say Shotwell's I believe that these might be from after 1926. These are adjustable to fit any face and there are holes to see out. The front has a color image of eyes and glasses, the back pictures a five cent box in color and there is a poem that reads as follows: When I go out to play,
I always shout Hurray! For with these specs,
I can see the Checks,
On Checkers a mile away. When fully opened these measure 4-3/16" wide. They are in good condition with some wear and soiling from use as can be pictured. |
