The pictures below show larger views of the 1972 Itek Corporation NASA Apollo 15 Award Letter & Aristarchus Moon Crater Print in this lot. The award letter is dated March 28, 1972. The letter was from John A. Wolfe, President, Optical Systems Division, to employees of The Optical Systems Division of Itek Corporation of Lexington, Massachusetts. The letter explains that the company received a Group Achievement Award from Dr. James Fletcher, NASA Administrator for The Optical System Division’s contribution to the Apollo 15 Mission. The award was for “outstanding contributions to Lunar Science through the definition, design, and development” of their 24 inch Optical Bar Panoramic Camera. The letter included the large print that is included here. Apparently it was taken with the above mentioned camera. It is explained in the paragraph below the black & white image that was taken of The Crater Aristarchus, Oceanus Procellarum on the Moon. The letter is on 8-1/2'' x 11''company letterhead with an “ITEK” watermark. The Moon crater print or poster measures about 17'' x 14''. The print appears to be in excellent condition but it does have a vertical crease slightly to the right of the center as pictured. Both the letter, and the print, have a mark in the upper left corner where there was once a paper clip attaching the two together. |
