| | | The pictures below show larger front and back views of this Large Old Named Ladies Milk Maiden Drill Photograph With Dresses & Milking Stools. This photograph was acquired from an old estate of a family that lived in Rochester, New Hampshire and Bangor, Maine. This photo is not dated but it is believed to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s. It was taken by Stevens Studio of Rochester, New Hampshire. It is difficult to see but the mat is marked at the lower right side. We believe it was taken in Rochester, New Hampshire. With a little research of the names it could be known for certain. We do not know anything about Milk Maiden Drill Teams. There are (8) women in the photograph. They are all nicely dressed in vintage white dresses with bonnet hats. Most of them have a necklace that can be seen. They are each holding a covered three legged stool or chair for milking cows. All of the women are named on the back of the photo. The back is marked as follows: MILK MAIDEN DRILL Mrs Ada Prestoy Mrs Elizabeth Varney Mrs Ida Greenfield Mrs Alice Gerrish Mrs Lillian Lorr Miss Bessie McKay Miss Edith Ball Miss Hazel Thompson ROCHESTER - NEW MARKET The photograph with the mat measures 11-3/4'' x 9-3/4'' The photograph itself measures about 8-1/2'' x 6-1/2''. The photo appears to be in excellent or better condition. The mat board has some small water spots and small scuff marks on the front. The back has some edge wear. The applied list of names has age spotting as pictured. This is probably from paste that was used. |
