The pictures below show larger views of the Old Boxed Hopalong Cassidy Arvin Tube Radio with Original Advertisement all in this lot. This radio is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1940s. It was manufactured by Arvin Industries, Inc. of Columbus, Indiana. As far as we know it is all original, and it had been in a Hoppy Collection for many years.

The radio has its original electric cord, and a rolled up length of original antenna wire. We plugged it in for a very short time to warm up. It was humming, but in that short time we did not tune in any stations or channels. It may not have warmed up enough, we do not know. Rather then risk damaging anything, it was unplugged. So we can not tell how well it may work, or if it needs anything inside replaced or not.

The radio is in a red painted metal case with Hopalong Cassidy on the front with his name “Hopalong Cassidy” , written in rope. He is on a his rearing Topper horse. There is also a longhorn sterr bull head, cactus, and Conestoga wagons. There are two (probably Bakelite) knobs, one is on / off, and one marked “ARIVIN” with AM radio station numbers 55, 60, 70, 90, 110, 130, and 160. There is no Civil Defense (CD) triangle marking. On the back metal panel is an embossed Hopalong Cassidy horse saddle image. There is a paper label on the back that reads as follows: It is marked on the two sides as follows:

CAUTION: REMOVE THE ELECTRIC POWER CORD FROM THE WALL OD FLOOR OUTLET BEFORE REPLACING TUBES, REMOVING OR ADJUSTING, CLEANING THE CHASSIS, OR CONNECTING ANY AERIAL WIRES.
TO CHANGE TUBES: REMOVE THESE TWO SCREWS (arrows) AND LIFT OFF BACK COVER.

There is another paper label on the bottom of the metal case. This one has an Underwriters Laboratory UL marking, an RMA marking, and a tube layout outline diagram of the inside. This label reads as follows:

ARVIN MODEL 441T
CHASSIS RE-278
117 V. AC-DC 30 WATTS
UL
LISTED UNDER REEXAMINATION SERVICE UNDERWRITER’S LABORATORY
RMA

The box is original, and it has the same markings as the radio. Please see the pictures for the condition of the box. With this radio we are including an original red, black, and white magazine advertisement for rge radio. It also pictures Hoppy “WILLIAM BOYD AS HOPALONG CASSIDY IDOL OF AMERICAN KIDS!”. It has the radio pictured and there is a paragraph written about this “Crushproof! Shatterproof! Big Performing Radio!” radio. It also reads:

CORRALS EVERY BIG FEATURE!
SUPERHET CIRCUIT
ALNICO SPEAKER
FOUR TUBES (INCLUDING RECTIFIER)
POWER A-PLENTY
SAFE FOR KIDS!
GUARANTEED FOR ONE YEAR!

This heavy table or night stand radio is one of the more desirable Hopalong Cassidy collectibles out there. To judge the size, including the knobs, the radio measures about 8-1/4'' x 5-1/4'' x 4''. It appears to be in excellent condition. The advertisement appears to be in mint condition, and the box appears to be excellent with some wear as pictured. Please see all of the pictures. As mentioned above “It may not have warmed up enough, we do not know. Rather then risk damaging anything, it was unplugged. So we can not tell how well it may work, or if it needs anything inside replaced or not.”.
