| | | The picture shows a view of the 1921 Model Ship Building Photographs & Newspaper Article in this lot. The photographs and article are of Captain Samuel Nelson and his model ship building. These were all found together. The news article is from The Boston Post on Wednesday,February 2, 1921 (dated on the other side). It pictures him with one of the sailing ships that he had built ''The Great Admiral''. The original old photographs have him with two other different sailboats he had built. One of the photos also has a young girl (perhaps a grandchild) in it as well. The caption below the image in the article reads as follows: CAPTAIN SAMUEL NELSON AND ONE OF HIS SHIP MODELS. Captain Nelson is building superintendent of the Boston and for 31 years he was a deep water sailor. In his spare moments he builds models of ships to perpetuate the memory of these great fine craft of the days of long ago. The model that he is holding is that of The Great Admiral, one of the fastest ships of her type. To judge the sizes the newspaper clipping measures about 4-1/2'' x 9-1/8''. These items appear to be in good condition as pictured. The photos have some old spotting. The newspaper has yellowed from age and has some edge tears at the top. |
