The first book pictures a Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett type frontiersman or pioneer on a horse and it is titled “CHILDREN EVERYWHERE”. This (328) page book is ©1940. It is by Gerald Yoakam, M. Madilene Veverka, and Louise Abney. There are many color illustrations on the pages in the stories. There is a “3” on the cover but we are not sure what grade level the book is for. The book was published by Laidlaw Brothers, Inc. Publishers of Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Atlanta. The second book pictures children and a dog playing in a wagon and a lamp post with a street sign. This (236) page book is ©1948, 1949, 1953. It is by Odille Ousley and David H. Russell and illustrated by Meg Wohlberg. There are many color illustrations throughout the pages in the stories. The book states that it is a “First Reader”. The book was published by Ginn and Company of Boston New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Columbus, San Francisco, Toronto, and London. The first school text book measures about 5-3/4'' x 8'' x 1'' and the second one measures about 6-1/8'' x 8-1/4'' x 3/4''. The two books appear to be in very good used condition as pictured. There is normal over all wear on the covers and pages from years of use. The first book has a stamping inside that it was a school book from The Union School District, of Keene, New Hampshire. |
