The pictures show four views of this Old Art Deco Gazelle Elgin American Metal Cosmetic Compact Case. This compact case is not dated but it is old. It appears to be made of brass. The first picture shows the top of the closed case. The second picture shows the bottom. The third shows the inside and the fourth shows the compartments opened. There are (4) compartments. Three are in the bottom and one is behind the mirror in the top. The case has a nice art deco design with gazelles or antelopes both inside and out. The compartment behind the mirror may be for tissues or it could have held cigarettes as well. The space on the right is believed to be for a lipstick container. The left compartment had traces of a pink powder. We are not sure what cosmetic was in the smaller compartment. There are buttons to open the two bottom doors and a tab on the right to pull down the spring loaded mirror cover. It is marked on the bottom left side door as follows: ELGIN AMERICAN MADE IN U.S.A. The compact is about the size of a large bar of soap. Closed it measures about 4-3/8'' x 2-5/8'' x 1-3/8''. It appears to be in very good condition as pictured. The mirror has some damage on the back side and it could be replaced if desired. |
