| | | | The picture shows a close view of both sides of this 1834 Woodworth's Patent Planing Machine Massachusetts Advertising Hard Times Token. As I understand it, there were times in the 1800's when there was a shortage of metals for minting coins. Many businesses had minted their own and took advantage of this opportunity to advertise on them. This coin is believed to have had a value of one cent. It is made of copper and pictures a patented wood planing machine. On one side it reads: WOODWORTH'S PATENT PLANING MACHINE
