The pictures show views of this Old Occupied Japan Painted Metal Peacock Trinket or Jewelry Box. The box is shown from the top, bottom, front, back, inside, and the lid. Please note that the hinged lid has come off and it just needs to be re-soldered. The metal box is not dated but it is from the late 1940s shortly after the end of World War II. It appears to be molded of a lead alloy or pot metal. The cover or lid has a peacock bird on a tree branch with flowers and a red painted background. The box has four feet and it has scrollwork design with flowers and leaves all around the sides, and a pattern on the bottom. The trinket or jewelry box is lined with a pink cloth. It is marked on the bottom as follows: CKS (on a flag or pennant with a diamond background) MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN The box measures about 3'' x 2-1/4'' x 1-1/2''. It appears to be in good used condition with some over all wear from age and handling as pictured. It will need to have the lid resoldered as mentioned above. |
