The pictures show views of both sides of the Early United States Side Wheeler Paddle Steamer Boat Chocolate Mold Set with the Bonus in this lot. The bonus is a broken portion of another mold set with the same paddleboat. Included here are both sides of an interlocking mold set that has three side wheeler paddle boats.

The mold set is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1800s or early 1900s. The maker is unknown. They appear to be made of heavy cast aluminum. These were sold to us as chocolate candy molds, but they may also be used to make low melting point lead castings of the ships. The boats or ships have ''US'' on the paddle wheels and on the outside the two halves are marked ''38''.

Chocolate, lead, or whatever molding material would be poured into the bottom of the ships. Each boat measures 2-3/16'' long and the entire complete mold set measures 7-5/8'' long. The set appears to be in excellent condition as pictured. If the mold is to be used, they would need to be straightened because a slight bow in the halves is causing a small gap.
