The pictures show views of all (68) Old Hires Root Beer Soda Advertising Items in this lot. The first picture shows all of the items that are included and the second picture shows the back of the advertising trade card. These items are not dated but they are all old. There are (5) unused sandwich bags that came folded inside the taller narrow paper bag. The bags were an advertising premium from Hires that would be seen by others if they were used for lunch. Shown is the outer bag, both sides of the imprinted bags, and the remaining three. Next there is a cloth bag filled with (58) unused blank soda bottle caps. The cork lined bottle caps are unused. Most are gold and a few are green. They are in various conditions from being stored in the bag. The bag has a mailing label sewn at the bottom that has not been filled out. The bag has spotting all over and a tear in the side from the bottle caps. Originally the bag had a draw string but it is not there now. It is marked on the side as follows: HIRES R-J ROOT BEER WITH REAL ROOT JUICES THE CHARLES E. HIRES COMPANY 206 SOUTH 24th STREET PHILADELPHIA 3, PA. There is an old light blue glass Hires root beer syrup bottle. The empty bottle has no cracks chips or breaks. It is marked on the four sides and bottom with raised lettering as follows: HIRES IMPROVED ROOT BEER MAKES FIVE GALLONS OF A DELICIOUS DRINK MANUFACTURED BY THE CHARLES E. HIRES CO. PHILADELPHIA, PA. U.S.A. C34 (on bottom) There is a single orange & brown cork lined advertising bottle cap that reads: HIRES ROOT BEER MADE WITH ROOTS - BARKS - HERBS The final item in this lot is an old Hires Improved Root Beer advertising trade card. Unfortunately this nice old card is torn in half. It is titled ''RUTH AND NAOMI''. The picture side has a colorful image of a couple embracing and another young man watching. At the bottom left it has what appears to be a Bible passage marked ''RUTH 1-16''. The art was from a painting that Charles Hires had acquired for over $5,000.00 from his travels abroad. Lithographed prints were made of the painting and offered as a souvenir to the Patrons of Hires Root Beer to be hung in your drawing room. You could have ordered one of the prints as a premium for (5) labels like the one pictured and (3) two cent postage stamps. All of these items for one price! To judge the sizes the taller outer paper bag measures about 3-3/4'' x 9''. The paper bags and the glass bottle appear to be in mint condition. The bottle caps have storage wear. The cloth bag has a tear and much spotting as mentioned above. The advertising premium trade card is torn in half as mentioned and pictured. |
