The picture shows the labeled side of this Old 5 lb. Lowney's Chocolate Covered Dates Candy Box. It is not dated but believed to be from the early 1900's. This large box has the applied blue and white background paper on all four sides of the lid and on 1/3 of the top. The other 2/3 had come off at some point. That paper is repeatedly marked "LOWNEY'S CHOCOLATES". This appears to be a standard type bulk box that would have a different name where the word DATES appears. Also, another different label could be applied. The label pictures the Victorian lady that appears on advertising and other different Lowney's products. There is a banner over her with Lowneys famous slogan "NAME ON EVERY PIECE". The rest of the label is marked as follows: Lowney's Chocolate Covered Dates Five Pounds Net Weight Made By Walter M. Lowney Co., Boston, Mass., U.S.A. It measures 7-1/2" x 10-3/4" x 4-1/8". It is in good condition. There is the section of missing paper and some spotting on the bottom. |
