The pictures below show larger inside and outside views of this Old Hopalong Cassidy William Boyd Cowboy Hero Character Toy Stephens Auto Magic Picture Gun. The projector gun is not dated, but it is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. This metal toy projector gun would have originally come in a box, with film boxes, and loop filmstrips. Both sides have a colorful water decal that shows an image of “HOPALONG CASSIDY” being projected. It is also marked as follows: AUTO – MAGIC PAT NOS. 2100008, 2148237, 2135952 MADE IN U.S.A. This post World War II toy metal gun looks like a cap gun, but it is not. It opens to install two AA batteries in the grip area, and a loop filmstrip at the top. There is a light bulb inside that shines through the film and out the magnifying lens at the end of the gun barrel. You can also focus the lens by pulling it in or out. You would project the film frames on about any smooth surface. To advance the film strip you pull the trigger and it advances inside with slots on the film. It appears to need another small spring to advance the film strip frames. The toy projector gun measures about 6'' long. It could use a good cleaning, but it appears to be excellent used condition as pictured. |
