Shown is the front, back, and the printed area below the ship. The photo has much detail of the ship and Nice, France behind it. The post World War II print is mounted on mat board and it is in a blue / green wooden frame. There is no glass or backing paper, just as it was found, but both can be easily added by the buyer if desired. In front of the bridge, and on the bow, the ship is marked “EMPIRE STATE”. Below the photo print, it is marked as follows: PHOTOGRAPHIE MARIUS BAR 47 AVENUE MAREEAU MARIUS BAR PROT TOULON T.S. “EMPIRE STATE” NICE FRANCE 1948 The print, with the frame measures about 27-1/8'' x 14-1/2'' x 5/8''. Theprint and the frame appear to be excellent condition as pictured, but as stated above, there is no glass or backing paper. Below here is a short History of this T.S. She was laid down as the SS President Jackson and later served as USS Barrett (T-AP-196). She was converted to a troop transport and training ship in 1973 serving as the training ship for the State University of New York Maritime College until 1990 when she was replaced by the college’s current training ship the USTS Empire State VI. After serving New York Maritime she was placed in the Maritime service’s James River “Ghost Fleet”, until 2007 when she was sold for scrap. |
