The pictures show views of all (8) Colorful Old Unused & Boxed Adams Novelty Flying Butterfly Souvenir Cards in this lot. The box and the cards are not dated but they are old. The butterflies have a 1932 patent number on them. The box originally held a dozen (12) cards and (8) are left here along with all (8) envelopes. The box is a store shelf display box with a pop up die cur section. The front side and the top have advertising. The diecut top is marked as follows: ONE DOZEN ADAMS' BUTTERFLIES THE FLYING BUTTERFLY THEY FLY 10 TO 15 FEET INTO THE AIR The cards have colorful illustrated images. Three of them have pretty ladies (two different ones), one has a baby with a butterfly, one has sail boats, one has a bird, and two have old house images. The insides of the cards are blank. The backs of the cards have the instructions printed as shown in the second picture below. The fronts of the cards, in the order pictured, read as follows: HERE'S TO HAPPINESS HERE'S TO HAPPINESS HERE'S TO HAPPINESS HERE'S TO HAPPINESS BRING YOU GOOD CHEER BRING YOU GOOD CHEER BRING YOU GOOD CHEER BRING YOU GOOD CHEER Each card has a colorful unused mechanical butterfly inside. There are four different designs and they are all printed on both sides. These are made of printed paper with a metal center section, a metal wire with beads, a wooden propeller, and a rubber band. We have not tried these because the rubber looks old and may have to be replaced. You would wind the propeller up and place them inside the card, in a book, or under something. When opened or moved the butterfly is supposed to take flight. ADAMS' PAT. NO. 1,858,538 (1932 patent number) OTHER PATENTS PENDING To judge the sizes the closed cards each measure 5'' x 4''. The cards and the mechanical butterflies appear to be in mint unused condition as pictured. The old rubber bands may need to be replaced for use. The box has some shelf wear and discoloration from age and / or handling. |
