The picture shows a view of the (2) Unused 1955 It Came From Beneath The Sea Movie Ad Mat Molds. The molds are still attached. The ad mats are not dated but it is from the 1955 movie. These are molds in which lead is poured to create a thin metal negative image that is then mounted on a wooden block for printing. Advertising is no longer being made or printed like this. The ad mats are like a miniature 3-D posters and would look nice framed, or you could still use them to make print blocks. The print block would have been used to print on movie pages in newspapers, in magazines, or in the movie theater programs. They are made of a thick compressed paper board. They are hard to see in the picture below, but these admats have movie scene images of the gigantic octopus beast coming up out of the ocean, covering city buildings with its tentacles, and people running. They are marked as follows: (#1) MAT 2-A3 STILL NO. 65 (#2) PRIMORTIAL MONSTER ATTACKS THE WORLD! IT CAME FROM BENNETH THE SEA A COLUMBIA PICTURE STARRING KENNETH TOBEY - FAITH DOMERGUE - WITH DONALD CURTIS SCREEN PLAY BY GEORGE WORTHING YATES AND HAL SMITH TECHNICAL EFFECTS CREATED BY RAY HARRYHAUSEN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER SAM KATZMAN PRODUCED BY CHARLES H. SCHNEER DIRECTED BY ROBERT GORDON AD MAT 203 - 92 LINES (2 COL. x 46 LINES) The ad mats together as pictured measure about 5'' x 8-3/8''. They appear to be in near mint unused condition with a black line as pictured. This would not effect using the mold.
