''I.D.E.S.'' stands for ''Irmandade Do Divino Espirito Santo'' in Portuguese, which translated in English as ''Brotherhood of The Espirito Santo The Holy Ghost''. These fraternal type organization pinback buttons are not dated but they are believed to be from the 1800s or early 1900s. The fronts of these are identical with an image of a wreath, a crown, and a dove. The right one pictured has a paper insert in the back with advertising and a union marking. The left one does not have an insert. It is marked on the two sides as follows: I.D.E.S. (insert) WALTER N. BRUNT 880 MISSION ST. SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. BADGES, BANNERS, LAPEL BUTTONS, PRINTING The pin back buttons each measures 1-1/4'' wide. They appear to be in good condition with some surface cracking and a few small spots as pictured. As mentioned above the left one does not have the paper backing.
