| | | The picture shows a view of this Old Childhood of Jesus Magic Lantern Religious Glass Slide. This glass slide is not dated, but it is believed to be from the 1800s or early 1900s. The scene is of Mary watching Joseph work at hewing a wooden beam as their child Jesus carries a yard stick and a T square which resembles a cross. Mary appears to be making thread from wool, Joseph is holding a small broad ax. Also in the scene there are birds on a perch, a chicken with chicks, a hammer, a fence, a shelf, and a halo on Mary and Jesus. The name ''HOFMANN'' appears on the wooden section holding the beam. There are some labels on the slide that read as follows: 6 THE CHILDHOOD OF JESUS IN WORKSHOP OF JOSEPH HOFMANN. CLL T. H. McALLISTER, MANUFACTURING OPTICIAN 49 NASSAU STREET, NEW YORK This old magic lantern glass slide measures 4'' x 3-1/4''. It appears to be in excellent condition as pictured, however, there is a single crack in the lower left corner of the image that does not show up on the scan. That same corner tip is chipped off. |
