The pictures show views around the capsule of this Unopened 1967 Rubber Uglies #15 Sandy Gum Ball Machine Toy Prize Character Creature Figure. The figure is not dated but it is known that it was made in 1967. It is most likely marked ''Made In Hong Kong'' on the bottom but we have not opened it to find out. Some people call these figures ''Jigglers'' or ''Squishy Rubber''. They were sold in 1960s gum ball machines and in stores out of an cardboard advertising display box.

This Rubber Ugly is unique in that he has been trying to escape his capsule. Over the years he has poked six holes in the capsule for air, but he is still safely inside and has not escaped yet. This type of rubber has a checmical reaction with the plastic capsule used and where it has contacted the clear plastic (6 spots) a hole has developed. The creature could be removed safely if desired, but we think that he is much more interesting and unique the way he is now, poking his way out through the plastic capsule.

Rubber Uglies are painted in a variety of colors. This one is made of a soft beige or tan rubber with painted blue markings on the top, with a black & white eye. This Sandy #15 Rubber Ugly figure measures about 2'' wide. It appears to be in excellent unique condition as pictured. Below here is some additional information, courtesy of Eureka Gumball Charm Nirvana:

RUBBER UGLIES

A ''Rubber Ugly'' was a little rubber creature that was both a dime store countertop toy and gumball machine toy in the year 1967. The look of them was modelled after a series of trading card stickers put out by the Topps Trading Card company in 1965 called ''Ugly Stickers''. The original 1965 set consisted of 44 ''Ugly Stickers'' that were designed by 3 artists. (10) of them were designed by Basil Wolverton, (17) by Wally Wood and (17) by Norman Saunders. However after the designs were approved, all (44) paintings of the creatures were painted by just Norman Saunders. To date, I've never come across all 44 different ''Rubber Uglies'', just many variations of about 21 of the ''Ugly Sticker'' designs.
