The pictures below show larger views of this Unique & Custom Engraved 1961 Crete Greece Knife with Photographs & Sheath. Shown is the knife from both sides, with both sides of the sheath, both sides and an edge view of the handle, and a closer view of the full engraving on the blade. This is a very sharp knife.

This unique knife has a photograph inside each side of the thick lucite or clear plastic handle. one of a woman, and one of a man. The blade has an outline map of the island of Crete of Greece, and it is dated 1961. It is engraved entirely in Greek. Since we do not read Greek, we had asked for some help online with a translation, and here are a few of the responses about the engraving that we had received:

''Put the knife in here and not where we be love, and why not a love will grow, we shall see. They lose wives.'' The script took some time because it was hand etched into the knife and people's writing styles differ even in different languages. As I conferred with my sister in law, she stated its from the island of Crete and statements like these were about vendettas with different people or villages. She said don't lose it.

Greeks are dramatic, ''put the knife in here'' is about putting your anger where it should be. ''Not where we be love. And Why not a love will grow.'' Is an endearment about it not being in our home (the fight). We shall see if our love can grow or the wive's lose. The women losing their husbands in this vendetta. Sounds as if this was from a woman reminding her man of the consequences.

If I were to make a guess, it would be that this might have been a custom made wedding present for the two people pictured in the handles. We do not know the names of this couple, or what ever became of them.

The sheath is made of wood inside and there is a black covering stitched on to the wood. The knife appears to be made of brass and the silver blade section appears to be plated. It doesn’t get more unique or custom then this. The knife measures 7-1/4'' long. It appears to be in near mint condition as pictured.
