| | | The picture below shows a larger front and back view of this 1932 Maine Public Health Association 7 Point Pupil Advertising Celluloid Pin Back Button. As far as we know, the Maine Public Health Association had a program, at least in the 1930s and 1940s, that sent Nurses into public schools to check children in seven areas of health. We do not know about other states. Children were checked for their birth registration, their vision, hearing, dental, growth, throat, and posture. These are the seven points of a star that they used. After completing the program, a child would receive one of these pin back buttons and a certificate as a reward. On the front is a seven point star and there is a paper insert in the back with a union mark and it is marked on the two sides as follows: I AM A 7 POINT PUPIL 1932 MAINE PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION DONALD LIBBY (written) ST. LOUIS BUTTON CO. MANUFACTURERS ST. LOUIS. MO. The pinback button measures 1-1/4'' wide. It appears to be in excellent condition as pictured. |
