The picture shows a front and back view of all (3) 1800s Cigarette Premium Pretty Lady Actress Trading Cards in this lot. Similar to baseball cards these had once been used as a premium in packages of cigarettes. They are not dated but are believed to be from the 1880s or 1890s. Each has a photograph of a woman mounted on a card. These may be actresses or singers of the day. Each has a name at the bottom of the photo. From left to right they are marked as follows: LILLIE VERNON SADIE BARNER LUCIE DALY Two of these are from Admiral Cigarettes and one is from Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. The backs of the cards have advertising that reads as follows: VERY MILD AND PURE THE ADMIRAL CIGARETTE CONTAINS ONLY THE MOST COSTLY BLEND OF TURKISH AND VIRGINIAN TOBACCO, AND IS THE MOST POPULAR CIGARETTE ON THE MARKET. BEWARE OF IMITATIONS DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY INFRINGEMENTS OF NAME, PACKAGE OR CIGARETTES. THE ONLY GENUINE SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES BEAR THE FASCIMILE SIGNATURE OF KINNEY BROS. ON THE PACKAGE AND ON EACH CIGARETTE. TAKE NONE WITHOUT. The cards vary slightly in size and the largest one measures about 1-1/2'' x 2-11/16''. These appear to be in excellent condition as pictured. |
