The pictures show several views of this Small 1860 Pocket Calendar Diary with Many Entries. The black cover still has a fragile black cloth ribbon bookmark attached. Most of the pages and dates have entries for the year 1860 as well as a word or two about the weather. Many of them make references to Massachusetts and New Hampshire towns. The young lady to whom this had belonged seemed to travel quite a bit between the two states.

We did not read the entire book, but in what was read we didn't see any references to the soon coming Civil War. The diary was from a Susan Coburn (Campbell) wife of a John P. Coburn of Windham, New Hampshire. The title page reads as follows:

POCKET DIARY FOR 1860
FOR REGISTERING EVENTS OF PAST OR PRESENT OCCURRENCE
FOR THE USE OF MANUFACTURERS, MERCHANTS,
HOUSEKEEPERS, MECHANICS, AND PROFESSIONAL MEN.
NEW YORK
PUBLISHED ANNUALLY FOR THE TRADE
1860.

The booklet has an 1860 calendar, Rates of Postage, Eclipses in 1860, and calendar diary pages for the entire year of 1860.

The closed book measures about 2-3/16'' x 3-1/2'' x 1/2''. It appears to be in excellent used condition as pictured. It has some wear from use but it is intact. All of the enties are neatly written. The last page has a tear and so does the back cover.
