The pictures below show larger front and back views of this 1963 Maine Oakhurst Dairy Advertising Milkman Product Delivery Ordering Signal Flag. This signal flag was for use in 1963 in the areas around Portland, Lewiston, Auburn, Augusta, and Gardiner, Maine where Oakhurst Dairy delivered their products. There are instructions on the center section. This E-Z signal flag is ©1963 by Jarman Company of Alliance, Ohio. Back in the days when many commonly used products or services such as coal, ice, wood, oil, laundry, dry cleaning, dairy products, bread, etc. were automatically delivered to your home, delivery men needed to know what you wanted. Rather then having to knock on your door to ask you, ways were devised to let them know such as a card in your window that could be seen from the street. In this case, Milkmen would know by you placing this flag in your used milk bottle in your milk box with the proper flag(s) for items you wanted left lifted up for them to see. This signal flag has (19) different color coded options or any combination of them to choose from. This particular flag is for use when additional items were wanted beyond your normal regular delivery. The color coded flags move. They are attached to the center card with a metal rivet. The different flags are marked as follows: 1 QT. SKIM MILK EXTRA 1 QT. HOMOGENIZED VITAMIN 39;39;D39;39; MILK EXTRA 1/2 GAL. HOMOGENIZED VITAMIN 39;39;D39;39; MILK EXTRA 1/2 GAL.
