| | | The picture shows a view of this Unused 1940 New York World's Fair Theme Store Sale Advertising Admat. This is a mold in which lead is poured to create a thin metal negative image that is then mounted on a wooden block for printing. Advertising is no longer being made or printed like this. It was most likely to be used for a store's advertising flier or newspaper advertising, These admats came in large sheets and were to be cut apart for use. This admat was not used but it appears that the ones that were around it were because there is some old tape and a few small lead pieces at the bottom edge. It looks like they were going to use it, but didnŐt, for the ''SALE'' word because the Trylon and Perisphere logo and the ''World's Fairest'' wording was crossed out in red. We have found that many New York City and surrounding areas used the World's Fair logos throughout 1939 and 1940 in their newspaper and magazine advertising to promote their products and services. The admat is numbered and dated at the bottom right ''1204 MAY '40''. It measures about 8-3/4'' x 2-1/2''. It appears to be in excellent condition with the red mark as pictured. The mark could be erased. The edge can all be trimmed off without effecting the admat as well if desired. |
