The picture shows a close view of both sides of the (2) Different Rear Admiral Byrd South Pole Medals / Coins in this lot. Both are honoring Rear Admiral Byrd as the first to fly over the South Pole. The first one pictured is made of aluminum and was a premium game piece from a Shell Gasoline Station. It measures 1" wide and is in mint condition. The obverse has a raised image of a plane flying over icebergs and penguins and reads:

The reverse reads:

The next coin is made of brass, measures 1-1/4" wide, and in bright near mint condition. The obverse has a raised image of Rear Admiral Byrd and a flag shield. It reads:

FIRST TO FLY OVER THE SOUTH POLE
REAR ADMIRAL RICHARD E. BYRD, U. S. N.

The reverse has a raised image of an airplane. On the airplane is the number NX4542 and "BYRD ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION". The rest reads:

TO COMMEMORATE
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF
THE BYRD
ANTARCTIC
EXPEDITION
1928 - 1930
