| | | The picture shows a close view of both sides of this 1800's Fanueil Hall Clothes Warehouse Massachusetts Advertising Hard Times Token. As I understand it, there were times in the 1800's when there was a shortage of metals for minting coins. Many businesses had minted their own and took advantage of this opportunity to advertise on them. This coin is believed to have had a value of one cent. It is made of copper. On one side it reads: FANUEIL HALL CLOTHES WAREHOUSE AN EXTENSIVE ASSORTMENT OF FASHIONABLE READY MADE CLOTHING The other side reads: CLOTHS CASSIMERES & VESTINGS. Wm. H. MILTON MERCHANT TAYLOR Nos. 4 & 6 FANUEIL HALL BOSTON The coin measures 1-1/8" wide and it is in very good condition with all wording being readable, but does have a hole to be used as a medallion. |
