Newspaper   Comic   Comic Strip   Character
The picture below shows a view of a portion of this January 5th, 1947 Boston Sunday Herald Newspaper Color Comic / Cartoon Section. It is much too big for scanning, but I did scan the top section which has the newspaper's name, the date, and a sampling of one of the comic strips. There are other old newspaper comic sections in my auctions right now. Please be sure to see and bid on the others as well.

The one in this auction is from 1947 and there are (8) colorful full pages of comic strips. There are (10) comic strips that are 1/2 page and (9) that are 1/3 page. The titles (in order of appearance) are as follows:

LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE

TERRY AND THE PIRATES

AGGIE MACK

JOE PALOOKA

ALLEY OOP

GRIN AND BEAR IT

BARNABY

SMOKEY STOVER

DICK TRACY

SMILIN' JACK

MICKEY FINN

HOLLYWOOD JOHNNIE

DIXIE DUGAN

SMITTY

WINNIE WINKLE

GASOLINE ALLEY

MOON MULLINS

THE GUMPS

HAROLD TEEN

There is also an advertisement for Suchard Chocolate Candy Bars. The ad explains that there were 175 million of them sold to the Armed Forces. The fully opened newspaper measures 30'' x 21-1/2''. It is in very good condition with normal wear and tear.
