The picture shows a view of this Unused Boxed 1908 St. Peter's Cathedral German Candle Kit. This unusual kit appears to be for or from a Centennial celebration. The oval box lid and bottom are made of heavy paper. The cover has a label that pictures St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, some flowers, and a banner. It is marked in German as follows: ST PETER NACHT LICHTE G. A. GLAFEY NURNBERG ST. PETERSKIRCHE ZU ROM MADE IN GERMANY (translates roughly in English) ST PETER NIGHT LIGHT G. A. GLAFEY NURNBERG ST. PETER CHURCH TO ROME MADE IN GERMANY Inside the box there are (3) embossed tin candle wick holders with floating cork sections on the bottoms. These are embossed as follows: 1808 - 1908 G G A G The letters are believed to be the initials of the maker G. A. Glafey. The tin sections were made to float on vegetable oil with a lit wick in the center. There are two instruction pages, a pair of tin tweezers for handling the wicks, and (48) waxed wicks on colorful paper holders. To judge the sizes the box bottom section measures 3-3/4'' wide. The kit appears to be in excellent or better condition as pictured. The two instruction sheets have discoloring from the wax of the wicks. They are still readable but some of the words transfered to the back of one of the sheets. |
