The pictures show views of this Colorful Set of Old Ballyhoo Funny Faces Novelty Character Toy Candy Boxes. These boxes are not dated but they are believed to be from the 1920s or 1930s. What is here are (5) boxes with colorful printing of different parts of a mans head. They all fit inside a half box with print. You would mix the different parts to make many different strange looking characters. Four possible combinations are shown that show all of the smaller box sides. These smaller boxes may have had candy inside at one time. They are all empty now. Similar sets of toy puzzle blocks called ''Changeable Charlie'' were later put out from the 1940s to the 1960s by Gaston Manufacturing and Halsam Products Company. The box that they fit inside has simple advertising in a Broadway font. We do not know if there was a cover or not. It could have been shrink wrapped or a clear covering to show the faces. The different sides of the bottom box are marked as follows: MANUFACTURED BY PACKAGE CONF. CORP. BOSTON, MASS. 5c BALLYHOO FUNNY FACES 5c FUN FOR EVERY ONE THOUSANDS OF COMBINATIONS CAN BE MADE. FUN FOR THE KIDDIES. FUN FOR ALL AGES. To judge the sizes the the boxes together as shown measure about 4'' x 5-1/2'' x 1-1/8''. The set appears to be in excellent or better condition as pictured. One side of one of the smaller boxes, the one with eye glasses, has some spots as pictured. |
