| | | The pictures show larger top and bottom views of all (7) Small Old Porcelain and Glass Butter Pat Plates in this lot. There are two matching pairs and three other different ones. These are not dated but they are old. Most butter pat plates had been used in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Butter pats were usually part of a large china or dinnerware set. They were used at a time when store bought butter did not exist. Butter would be molded and stamped with a design and placed on these small individual serving plates. Between the thousands of designs that were made and their small size they have become an excellent collectible item. They also make a nice size plate for Victorian dolls. All of these plates are round. Two are made of clear glass. One appears to be made of milk glass. The others are either porcelain or stone china. To judge the sizes the bottom left one measure about 3-3/16'' wide. These appear to be in good condition as pictured. The bottom three each have age crazing and discoloration. Three of these are marked with a crest and as follows: IRONSTONE CHINA H. BURGESS BI???EM STONE CHINA THOMAS HUGHES |
