The pictures below show larger front and back views of ths 1893 College Baseball (?) Concordia Bears Saint Paul University Sports Team Photograph Card. This photograph is believed to be of the University’s opening year baseball team. If it is not, and you know for sure, please send us a message and let us know. The back of this antique photo cabinet card has an elaborate design that includes an Artist paint pallet, paint brushes, plants, ribbons, and more. In addition to the Artist / Photographer information, there are more details that were written in pencil (see below), years ago. It is marked on the two sides as follows: GEO SCHAUMBURG (in pencil) 4337 TAFT AVE (in pencil) CONCORDIA BEARS 1893 (in pencil) JULIUS GROSS SUCCESSOR TO CRAMER FINE ART PAINTING A SPECIALTY OIL, PASTEL & CRAYON. 1001 SOUTH BROADWAY COR. CHOUTEAU AVENUE ST. LOUIS, MO. The photograph is of (18) men, of various ages, in uniform, with neck ties tucked in, and a bear mascot statue in the center. The Baseball Players are interestingly interacting with one another in the Photographer’s casual pose. There are some bear hide covered seats or platforms at the bottom, and trees on the background, of a scenic cloth back drop. The thick photograph card measures about 6-9/16'' x 4-1/4''. The image is clean, focused, and clear. It appears to be in excellent condition with some wear on the corners from handling over the years, as pictured. |
