The pictures below show five larger views of this Old Japanese or Asian Scenic Wood Lined Metal Jewelry or Trinket Box. The jewelry box is not dated but it is believed to be from between the 1930s and the 1950s. It is marked in Japanese characters. We can not read them so the maker is unknown. It is made of a silver colored pot metal, and the inside has a light weight wood. The top and all for sides have Japanese or Asian scenes. The hinged cover or lid has an elephant with men riding it wand walking with it. One has a flag, one has a fan, one a horn, and others with what appears to be other musical instruments. Around the sides are Japanese men in robes, with fans, with buildings, pagodas, or homes, a boat, trees, plants, and more. The underside of the box looks like alligator or crocodile skin. It is marked in five places on the bottom as follows: (4) Japanese Characters MADE IN JAPAN NO 56207 (a Flower) (a Sunrise)The inside of the box is lined in (5) wooden sections which can be removed if desired. The jewelry or trinket box measures about 4-1/8'' x 2-1/8'' x 3-3/8''. It appears to be in excellent used condition with some light wear from use as pictured. |
