The pictures below show larger front and back views of the (2) Different 1800s Ambrotype Photographs with Metal Oval Frames in this lot. These early photographs are believed to be Ambrotype photos. If we are wrong please let us know. The photographs are on the back side of glass with a dark tin background behind them. One is of a child wearing a hat. The other one is harder to see but it appears to be of a woman. These were acquired from the same old estate with many other older photographs including many tintypes, carte de visite (CDV), and cabinet cards. If it is of any help, the majority of photographs were of unidentified people from Rochester, New Hampshire, and Bangor, Maine. There is a paper in the back of the photo of the child. After the below scans was made, it was taken out to see the print on the hidden side. It is marked as follows: FROM WYMAN & CO.'S GALLERY, 335 WASHINGTON STREET, CORNER OF WEST STREET, BOSTON. These may have been contained in cases at one time, but there are no cases included here. These old photographs, with their frames each measure 2'' x 2-1/2''. We do not know how to grade the condition of these old photographs. They are as is, as pictured. They have not been removed from their frames, and no attempt has been made to clean them. |
