In the mid 1800s were times when metals for coinage was scarce many private companies had minted their own. The coin is copper and is believed to have been used in the place of a large U.S. cent. One side of this coin has an image of a ladies fancy hair comb with leaves in the center. This side reads: ALFRED WILLARD 149 WASHINGTON ST. BOSTON The other side reads as follows: IMPORTER OF JEWELRY, FANCY GOODS, CUTLERY & o BRUSHES, PERFUMERY, COMBS & o BY WHOLESALE OR RETAIL It measures 1-1/8" wide.
