The pictures below show two larger views of this Old Checkers Pop Corn Confection Tin & Metal Prize Crochet Hook Tool Set. This tool is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1920s. It was acquired in a large Cracker Jack and Checkers popcorn prize and premium collection that was purchased. The prize has a lithographed tin checkerboard sleeve, but it is not marked Checkers. Checkers Pop Corn Confection was owned by The Shotwell Manufacturing Company prior to being bought out by (competitor) The Cracker Jack Company in 1926. They had many quality prizes and premiums such as this. There is the tin checker board sleeve, and inside there are three tiny metal crochet hooks on a key chain like holder with a loop. You would select one of the hooks and slide it through the sleeve by itself and out the tiny hole in the bottom. You can then safely use that hook while the other two are inside. To judge the sizes the closed premium as in the first picture, measures about 4-1/8'' long. It appears to be in excellent condition with only light wear as pictured. |
