The pictures below show a larger front and back view of all (6) Old Chesterfield Cigarettes Advertising Premium I'm The Guy Celluloid Pin Back Buttons in this lot. These pinback buttons are not dated, but they are believed to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s. They were used as a premium from Chesterfield Cigarettes. They appear to be from the same set with a few different paper inserts. The blue back is from The Whitehead & Hoag Company, the four white backs are from The Phelps & Sons Manufacturing Company, and one is missing the paper insert. Both companies were from Newark, New Jersey. The paper inserts are marked as follows: (blue) CHESTERFIELD CIGARETTES FACTORY NO. 42 4th DIST. N. CAROLINA. WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. PATENTED (white) CHESTERFIELD CIGARETTES FACTORY NO. 42 4th DISTRICT N.C. PHELPS & SONS MFG. CO. NEWARK, N.J. We do not know how many are in the complete set. Each of these pinback buttons have an saying from the Victorian period. All but one have advertising paper inserts in the back.
