| | | The picture shows a front and back view of this 1896 American Pepsin Gum Advertising Premium Celluloid Pin Back Button. This pinback button was part of an 1896 collection of pinback buttons that we had acquired. It was used as an advertising premium by The American Pepsin Gum Company. Similar ones were used by tobacco or cigarette companies at that time. This pinback button has an image of a United States Continental Army Soldier in uniform and holding his rifle. There is a paper insert in the back. The front, edge, and back of this pin are marked as follows: CONTINENTAL AMERICAN PEPSIN GUM CO. BUTTONS MADE BY THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J. PATENTED JULY 17, '94 APRIL 14, '96 JULY 21, 1896PAT. JULY 21, 1896 The pin back button measures 7/8'' wide. It appears to be in excellent condition with light age discoloration and a few tiny spots as pictured. Below here, for reference, is some additional information about Charles Dickens: |
